Actress Gabrielle Union Claims The Woman She Is Today Would’ve Left Husband, Dwyane Wade

Gabrielle Union has done a lot of healing over the years. The Hollywood actress is ready to spread the love and knowledge. In recent weeks, she has been opening up about her relationship with her husband Dwyane Wade, and their obstacles together. In a recent interview while promoting her book “You Got Something Strong?”, she reveals that the woman she is now would probably have not stuck by Wade earlier on in their marriage. She explains why.

For those unfamiliar, Wade and Union had a pretty tumultuous period in their relationship right before they got married. She spoke to Time magazine about her new husband’s infidelity, resulting in another woman’s child. While she admits that they were not in a good place at the time, she recalls things being way better when he finally decided to tell her. The revelation broke Union and sent her on a downward spiral. The child, Xavier Zechariah Wade, was fathered with his long-time friend Aja Metoyer.

While Union eventually forgave and married Wade, she began the long and grueling journey of trying to have her own child with him. The weight of not being able to carry a child and Wade’s infidelity resulting in a child with someone else lead Union to feel like a failure. This was made worst when husband Wade asked her to stop trying to carry a child and consider surrogacy. “I was fighting with my husband about what was best for my body? Did he really think that surrogacy and a baby was our chance to set it right? To rebalance? I said coolly, “You’re going to be the voice of reason now? Really?”

While on the promo trail for her book, Union has been very open about how hard it has been to move forward and grow from the experience. Looking back now, she realizes just how much she has grown, admitting that the woman she is now would have walked away if faced with the same circumstances.

While speaking with Essence, she says, “Who I am, the healing that I’ve fought for, the peace that I have fought for I wouldn’t, I just wouldn’t.” She goes on to say, “But there is wisdom from perspective and time, and therapy, and personal evolution and accountability that changes things, you know.”

Wade did join his wife for a one-off sit down discussing the book in Miami last week but has otherwise remained silent. Aja Metoyer, on the other hand, made a cryptic social media post some feel is geared towards Union and all the press.
