Fans of ’90s R&B star Al B. Sure have been very scared for the singer over these last few months. In a series of posts that began earlier this year, he opened up about an ongoing health issue that had left him hospitalized. It’s been a scary time for his family, but his son recently shared that his dad was able to come home after two months. Now Al B. is giving fans his own update in a lengthy video and caption.

Born Albert Joseph Brown II, the Boston and New York native has been a powerhouse in music both in front of and behind the scenes for years. Sure enjoyed a great deal of success during the New Jack Swing era and became a big-name star while also penning hits for Jodeci and others. He is a father of three, including Al B. Sure Jr, singer Devin LOUD and actor Quincy Brown. Sure is very present on social media and in recent years, has been heavily involved in the world of celebrity boxing, often posing up with Mike Tyson and others. While his posts used to center around his training, the 80s singer began to worry fans with videos of him in the hospital.

While many videos appeared vague, it was obvious he was gearing up for a real fight behind the scenes. “Going Back In! ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿฝ All Praise is Due to Allah ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿฝ, he said in one video. In another post of him in a machine with a screen above showing some x-rays, he said, “Grand Rising #AlBeez ๐Ÿ around the ๐ŸŒ No matter how & where you woke up this morning, just be grateful that you actually woke up this morning ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿฝ #OntheMend #AllPraiseisDotoAllah ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿฝ” Things got quiet around August as his team announced they would be taking over his page as he fought to recover. However, his son gave everyone hope when he announced that his dad would be coming home just in time for his birthday. Now Al B. Sure is opening up about exactly what he was going through.

In a lengthy three-part post, Sure showed off the massive surgery scar on his abdomen. He starts by saying, “This unforeseen medical roller coaster has been a complete life-changing experience, and I truly value everyday functionality like Walking, Talking, and Breathing on your my own with no assistance from a medical professional or machines.” Sure says that in July, he lost feeling on the left side of his body during a studio session and fell over. Sure says everything since has been a blur, and it was not till October that he truly understood what happened to him.

The R&B singer says that the overall specifics of what went wrong are a bit complicated, but he did ultimately get placed on dialysis. He got his lymph nodes removed, several blood transfusions, an organ transplant, became septic, had his hematoma repaired and was almost at risk of being sent to hospice because doctors feared he would not survive. He also confirms that he was in a coma for two months like previous speculated.

Sure says he is now the proud owner of a “Chevron”-shaped scar on his midsection. “Being accountable to myself to achieve consistent Health and Wellness moving forward is on ME!” he declared while encouraging others to take care of themselves. Fans wished him a speedy recovery in the comments section. In his most recent social media post, Al B. Sure showed off his weight loss revealing he was now 169 pounds. According to the singer, he was 200lbs + prior to his hospitalization and has not been 170 pounds since high school.

Al B. Sure is currently using a cane to get around, but on his way to a full recovery. The singer is now advocating people to become organ donors to help save lives.
