For a long time, there have been questions by many both on and off social media surrounding Beyonce’s philanthropic efforts, or lack thereof. Due to Beyonce not necessarily conforming to the “loudest in the room” mentality, most of her moves have been silent. From acting endeavors to the latest news on her musical projects, the singer remains tightlipped until it’s time for takeoff. The same can be said for her love for charity, as Beyonce has been revealed to have been secretly donating to charities over the years.
Beyonce Knowles-Carter has been known to top the charts, while her albums, singles, and tours generate millions in dollars. While other things such as the “elevator fight” and the investigative “Who Is ‘Becky With The Good Hair'” have taken off in headlines, oftentimes her endeavors in philanthropy go under the radar.
For instance, it was revealed in 2014 that Beyonce had been a part of the development of a Houston housing complex. The “Knowles-Tenemos Place Apartments” are a low-income housing complex that was developed using $7 million of her money. According to reports, the apartment complex is meant to help house the less fortunate, including the homeless.
The reports that Beyonce was attached to the housing complex only came to light thanks to an interview that a Pastor named Rev. Rudy Rasmus had with local news station KHOU. “She’s an incredible human being,” said the pastor, as reported by Rolling Out. “[Beyonce] has an incredible heart and has been extremely helpful in our mission and our ministry here.”
In another instance, Beyonce and her BeyGOOD Foundation partnered with Rev. Rudy Rasmus’s organization to help victims of the Hurricane Harvey disaster in Houston. While there was no information on the financials, Reverand Rasmus expressed that the donation was sizeable.
It has also been revealed that Beyonce took the salary she was promised from her role in Cadillac Records and donated the full amount to a rehabilitation center. After spending some time there to help prepare for her role as Etta James, Beyonce was inspired to give back to the center’s Brooklyn location to open the “Beyoncé Cosmetology Center“.
The “Black Is King” singer’s foundation also made headlines for $1 million to small, Black-owned businesses that were affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. BeyGOOD also teamed up with Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey’s foundation to offer resources for those suffering from mental health issues during the stressful time.
Other donations include a reported half million to Chime for Change, Feeding America, and various others. Proving there is no need to outwardly speak on her philanthropic efforts, a source spoke to The Daily Star on Beyonce’s silent moves.
“Without fanfare or publicity of any kind she has quietly given away millions to causes that move her,” the source said. “I don’t think she’s ever before given away such a large amount to one organization but she clearly believes that many people, possibly thousands, would die without their help.”
The source added, “Beyoncé has acted, like she always does, from the heart and if she’s helped save even one life over Christmas she’ll consider every last cent well spent.”
