Far as odd couples go, few are as different as Kevin Hart and Dwyane Johnson. The stand-up comic and action movie star first came together on the 2016 buddy cop comedy Central Intelligence. Their chemistry was so magnetic that they followed this up immediately with the Jumanji reboot and its sequel in 2017 and 2019, respectively. Hart also appeared in Johnson’s Fast and Furious spin-off, Hobbs and Shaw.
Despite all the visible differences, one thing the two men share in common is being fathers. Kevin has four children, Heaven, Hendrix, Kenzo, and Kaori. Dwayne also has three kids: his girls Simone, Tiana, and Jasmine. It makes sense then that the duo would want to add a more family-driven film to their growing resume together. They join Keanu Reeves, John Krasinski, Kate McKinnon, and more in DC League of Super-Pets. The film follows Superman’s dog Krypto (played by Johnson), and he pulls together a team of super pets to rescue the Justice League after they’ve gone missing. Hart plays Batman’s furry companion Ace, aka Bat-Hound.
While doing promo for their latest blockbuster, the proud dads discussed their different parenting styles and how they differ in approach. Kevin Hart jokes that he was slapped by enjoying dinner at Dwyane’s house by his daughter, who then called Kevin a b****. “I was eating…I had a plate, and she smacked it out of my hand and said not here b***” Hart recalled with a hearty laugh. Dwayne had good things to say about Hart’s children in a separate interview. “They [Kevin Hart’s kids] are very respectful. When I went, he was like, ‘Hey, let me get you guys something to drink.’ He left, and then Heaven, his daughter, was like, ‘He’s not my real dad.'”
The guys are not shy about roasting each other, and Dwyane retorts by informing the interviewer of Kevin’s bad breath. “there’s halitosis…..then there’s Kevin,” he joked. The guys are no stranger to poking fun at one another and tend to turn on the charm during interviews to really showcase their dynamic. Dwayne pressed Hart about not inviting him to his birthday party earlier this year. “I see you having a good time, and everyone is there. All your boys are there. I’m like, ‘Hey, where’s your best friend?'”. Hart replied, “Well, we don’t want to have problems like we did last time.”
Over on Instagram, Dwayne shared his excitement to be back on the screen with his best bud, even if it is just their voices this time. “WE’RE BAAAACK in SUPER PETS on JULY 29th in theaters worldwide 🌍” he captioned a clip of them doing press. He continues showing off their unique humor with some random facts about the guy’s friendship in his description as a way to wish Hart a happy birthday. “It was just the tequila talkin’, because it’s always 5 o’clock somewhere 😂😂🥃🥃. Happy Birthday, my brother, and I love you man. Our fucking jaws always hurt from laughing so hard.”
