Common and Jennifer Hudson Reportedly Dating, One Year Following Relationship With Tiffany Haddish, Comedian Responds

Rapper, actor, and humanitarian Common is easily one of Hollywood’s most sought-after bachelors. He’s successful, handsome, and hardworking. He also seems to really love and appreciate successful women, something made clear by his long list of celebrity ex-girlfriends, from singers to comedians, politicians, and more. Let’s take a look at his dating history and see who he is keeping company these days.

Erykah Badu and Common got their starts very similarly, both sprouting up during the “earthier” phase of the ’90s hip-hop and R&B cross-over. The two made music about spirituality and community and connected on their mutual values. They gave us the classic record “Love of My Life,” and in real life had also fallen deeply in love. Unfortunately, busy schedules kept them apart, with Badu later admitting that they lost some of their spark along the way. She told The Breakfast Club that despite trying to break things off with him a few times, Common just was not ready to let go.

Common admits the split hit him hard. “Some of the hardest work I’ve done on myself has been after breakups,” recalled the rapper. “With Erykah Badu, that was my first love where you’re just open and floating. When we split, I was 27 or 28. I was in a haze, just going through the motions. It was hard to eat.”   According to Badu, she and Common are now friends, and he is the most compassionate person in her circle.

Common’s next high-profile relationship was with Tennis legend Serena Williams. The two reportedly met in 2007 after Williams starred in one of Common’s videos. They would date on and off till 2010. Around that time, Williams complimented him, saying, “He’s obviously a great artist who is timeless and classic. You can’t beat that. But I have to focus on tennis because that’s my goal in life.”

Eventually, the two would make things a bit more official, but Serena admitted that Common’s schedule was worst than hers, and he was not really taking the initiative. Like with Badu, Common has remained good friends with Serena and even appeared with her on a red carpet in 2018.

Common and Angela Rye was a beautiful couple during their time together. Despite looking amazing together on red carpets and having all the charm and appeal of an a-list couple, the CNN political analyst claims they just could not get on the same page with their values. Angela said on her podcast that she broke up with Common because they just wanted different things. Rye apparently wanted to have children while Common didn’t.

Tiffany Haddish and Common met during a promotional blind date for a dating app during the pandemic. Sparks flew between the duo, and soon they were treating us to steamy silhouette challenges and flirty social media exchanges. The duo seemed incredibly happy, and Haddish even talked about her ideal proposals during several interviews.

Unfortunately, the pair split earlier this year, and things got a little messy. While Haddish had preferred to keep things hush, Common discussed their split in an interview, and she was not happy about how vague he was. Like Badu and Serena, Haddish says that Common was not good at managing his life and seemed like he required too much freedom to be in a relationship.

Might Common have finally found his match in EGOT winner Jennifer Hudson. The two are both native of Chicago and incredibly busy, with Hudson appearing to fall into Common’s type of high-achieving women. The duo was recently spotted out on a date in Philly, where they are shooting the sci-fi flick Breathe. People dining nearby said the pair were very cuddly and flirty and seemed to be really enjoying each other’s company.

Hudson was married briefly to wrestler and reality star David Otunga and was rumored to have been dating her RESPECT co-star Marlon Wayans but usually keeps a low profile. If she is indeed dating Common, this would be her first high-profile relationship. However, Common might finally have met his match because few people in Hollywood stay as booked and busy as Hudson.

Tiffany Haddish, Common’s ex-girlfriend got wind of the news and took to social media with a cryptic message. The comedian shared an image of an old man in a wheelchair who’s finally ready to settle down and be in a relationship. In the caption, she stated, “That’s why I hang at Adult Day cares for fun! I know I will find a real one in there.”
