Nick Cannon has been busy expanding his family almost as quickly as he’s been growing his empire. The multi-hyphened media personality has not been shy about wanting to have as many kids as he could take care of. This year he announced the arrival of his 7th child after welcoming three in 2021. 2022 also brought to it his return to music, but this time with the twist. The comedian turned rapper is taking a stab at R&B music. His latest single seems to hint that despite how they’ve both moved on, he still holds a place in his heart for his ex-wife and the first mother of his children Mariah Carey.
Nick Cannon dropped “Alone” on Valentine’s Day. The record samples Mariah Carey’s “Love Takes Time” off her debut self-titled album and is the lead single from Nick Cannon’s full-length R&B debut set for release later this month.
On the original, Mariah sings about heartbreak, expressing that sometimes it takes a moment to move on when something was so meaningful. “I don’t wanna be here, alone,” she sings in the sample. Nick kicks off his verse declaring his love for a mystery woman, declaring that he has no intentions of messing up her current happiness. “Imma keep my distance, stay in my lane,” he sings on the mid-tempo ballad. He goes on to say he “knows she has a man now” and sings in a syncopated style that is very reminiscent of ’00’s Mariah on songs like “We Belong Together.”
Nick seems to wish he and Mariah could have made it work, but admits she is better where she is now. He makes reference to the multiple kids he’s had and how he is still running the streets, which she no longer has to worry about since they are separated. It’s been 8 years since Nick Cannon and Mariah Carey split. The pair were a shocking union to many who never imaged them together.
Most of Mariah’s dating history had been dominated by her tumultuous marriage to Tony Mattola in the early ’90s. Despite flings with Luis Miguel, Derek Jeter, and Eminem, she mostly seemed to keep to herself. Nick, on the other hand, had a reputation for being a bit of a playboy. He had a relationship history with a pre-sex-tape Kim Kardashian, Christina Milian, Nicole Scherzinger, and Selita Ebanks.
Nick and Mariah met in 2005 at the Teen Choice Awards, where he presented her with the award for best R&B song. Nick has gone on record saying that he had always had a crush on Mariah since he was a kid. The day they met, she told him she had heard him saying nice things about her, and Nick responded, “If you give me a chance, I’ll prove all of it is true.”
They did not begin dating till 2008 and married quickly after becoming an item, with a ceremony in the Bahamas. The first time parents welcomed twin Monroe and Moroccan in 2011. They would go on to separate a couple of years later and have been pretty amicable co-parents.
Mariah was engaged briefly after Nick to Australian businessman James Packer in 2016. The pair broke up on less than favorable terms, with Carey later revealing that they did not have a physical relationship and omitting him from her memoirs. For the last couple of years, she been cozied up with choreographer Bryan Tanaka who she initially met as her backup dancer.
As for Nick, as his song states, he’s been “in these streets.” The man has been very public about his feelings towards monogamy, claiming that after attempting marriage with Mariah, he no longer believed in it. Instead, he has been very focused on growing his empire and dating as he pleases. He would go on to have flings with popular socialites like Kreesha Turner, Lanisha Cole and Jessica White before starting to expand his family.
He shares two kids with model Brittany Bell, son Golden, and daughter Powerful Queen. He then had twins with DJ Abby De La Rosa in June 2021 named Zion Mixolydian and Zillion Heir. That same month he welcomed Zen with Alyssa Scott. Baby Zen, unfortunately, passed in December due to a brain tumor.

2022 brought with it news of his 8th child with model Bre Tiesi. On a recent episode, Nick Cannon discussed the song and rumors of him attempting to win back Mariah Carey. Cannon claims he had his dream girl and messed it up. The talk show host also clarified rumors of him wanting his ex-wife back claiming the song wasn’t about that, although fans disagreed.
