Fulton County DA, Fani Willis Eyeing Homixide For Her Next Case, According To The Atlanta Objective’s George Chidi

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis has been busy getting some of hip-hop’s biggest names put behind bars. The county covers a large amount of areas in Georgia, including the entire city of Atlanta. Fani has been in the news a lot lately, and she is tied to several high-profile casses, including Young Thug, Gunna, and even former President of The United States Donald Trump. It seems she may now got her sights set on Homixide, which is a group in Atlanta. Rapper’s Future and Playboi Carti have been affiliated with this group for many years according to sources.

Fani Willis studied at Howard University and Emory University School of Law before becoming a prosecutor in Fulton Country for about 16 years. During this time, she participated in the Atlanta Public Schools cheating scandal before venturing off into her own private practice. By 2020 she was running for DA, where she won and got elected. Her first major case was looking into voter fraud in the state of Georgia during the 2020 presidential election. This included reviewing calls made by President Trump to state officials demanding they locate more votes to help overturn Joe Bidens win. This past January, she took the case all the way up to the grand jury and demanded charges be brought up against Trump and his constituents. The case is still ongoing.

Elsewhere, Willis was instrumental in the RICO cases that helped put rap superstars Young Thug and Gunna behind bars. Both rappers, real names Jeffery Williams and Sergio Kitchens, have been behind bars since May with 23 of their associates. RICO stands for Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations, meaning the men were accused of being involved in high-level street violence as part of the YSL group.

Despite pleas by both men’s lawyers to be released on bail, all requests have been denied. They even went to extreme lengths to prove they would not flee—this included offering up their homes, money and even volunteering for 24hr security. Unfortunately, the men have not been released from behind bars yet. By August, they had more charges brought up against them, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Willis said in a statement posted to Youtube that her goal is to make Fulton County as clean as it could be. She said when she took over the DA’s office, she found a back catalog of cases that were “unprecedented in Fulton County’s history.” She says that the pandemic did play a role in this, but also the people in office before her severely mismanaged everything. She cut to an image of 22,000 pending cases, “half of which hadn’t even yet been indicted.” An additional 50,000 records had not been properly entered into the public record.

Fani says they have made real progress and continue to push to create justice for those who have been failed by the legal system. Next on her list? Rapper Future. According to George Chidi of The Atlanta Objective, street gang Homixide is next on the DA’s list of groups to investigate and could be brought up on similar charges as Young Thug. Playboi Carti and Future are allegedly tied to this organization. While discussing YSL’s ongoing case, George Chidi referenced a video showing two rivals going at it. He goes on to explain, “Homixide is connected to Playboi Carti and nominally to Future, a big name.

After George Chidi’s tweet began going viral, he returned to Twitter to make a clarification. The journalist stated that while he does not believe that Future or Carti are gearing up for jail time, he believes that their constantly referencing the organization in their music could be an issue. “I mention them because THEY mention Homixide repeatedly in their music. This [organization] has cultural influence because it is a musical reference point.”

Do you think the lines between [street organizations] and popular rap music have blurred too far? Do you think any other rappers will be locked up next? Will Young Thug and Gunna be released? Let us know what you think.
