Rapper Iggy Azalea is busier than we may realize. Despite her last commercial hit being 2014’s “Fancy,” she’s had other records quietly go viral while making some major money moves behind the scenes. In addition to this, she’s been touring pretty heavily in the promotion of what was supposed to be her retirement album, End of an Era. While she recently announced plans to get back in the studio and cancel her retirement, Azalea is currently on bed rest and recovering from an injury that might delay her newly teased comeback.
Iggy Azalea’s rise to fame seemed sudden, but the Aussie rapper took a moment to catch on with the public. The music industry bet big on her, putting her under T.I’s wing with some of the biggest producers in the game. It was not until her 3rd official single, “Fancy” ft. Charli XCX that she found success, and for about a year, she dominated the charts. Unfortunately, the public would turn on her fairly quickly after accusations of cultural appropriation and some lyrics resurfaced where she called herself a “runaway slave master.” By this point, though, Azalea had already secured her bag a few times over, with major deals in make-up and fashion and a massive audience that continues to support her to this day.
That support spilled over into the TikTok craze when her Tyga-assisted single, “Kream,” became one of the most viral songs on the platform in 2020. It currently has over 200 million streams on Spotify. The song’s success ensured that while Iggy is not heating up the charts, she’s still hitting stages around the world and has been doing back-to-back summer tours. She had over 20 shows this year alone between May and October. The successful run of shows wrapped in Orlando, FL, last month.
Iggy had announced her retirement from music back in 2021 after saying she was done with the public and no longer needed the money. The mother of one said that things changed for her after welcoming her first child with rapper Playboi Carti, Onyx. Iggy said that intrusive fans and paparazzi made her want to step away from the spotlight completely. Unfortunately, she never quite found the peace she was looking for and opted to return to music less than a year later to spite the haters.
She tweeted, “A year ago I was willing to walk away from music because I was tired of the negative energy it attracted,” Azalea wrote on Monday. “But what I’ve learned is that even when I’m minding my business, y’all gonna be negative AND nosey. So if I can’t have peace, neither can you. I’m coming back. Cry about it.”
Iggy followed up her return to music and summer of tours with the announcement that she had sold her catalog for millions of dollars. The rapper has been a big part of her biggest hits, listed as a songwriter on songs like “Problem” with Ariana Grande, “Black Widow” featuring “Rita Ora” and, of course, “Fancy.” This deal has secured that the rapper never has to work again, but that does not mean she doesn’t want to. Iggy instead has reinvested in her art, setting up her own record label with new music prepped for 2023.

I was supposed to travel to Australia and film a movie but right before I left I had what I thought would be a rather mundane surgery on my back to fix the issues I had after touring two summers in a row on an injury…
Azalea’s fans will have to be patient with her, however, since she recently announced she is bedridden following some injuries sustained from a tough summer on the road. She had back surgery to help her recover from extensive touring. The 32-year-old rapper had to postpone plans to travel home to Australia for the holidays and a film shoot due to being in so much pain she could not remember what day it was.
‘It didn’t end up being very mundane because I had complications with my recovery & ended up in bed hooked up to a million machines and in so much pain there are about three days I actually just can’t remember at all,” she said. She could not even walk for much of her recovery and says her body has gotten very weak from being in bed all day. She plans to be back to full health by Christmas and says she is in good spirits.
That’s the goal 🙂
