Travis Scott is not the only one that is feeling the backlash from the Astroworld Festival tragedy. Now, social media is pointing their fingers at others often associated with the Houston native. This includes none other than members of the Kardashian Klan. From questions like “how will Kris Jenner spin this PR nightmare” to Khloe Kardashian’s comment section after a sexy photo was posted, the criticism continues to pour in.
The start of the Astroworld Festival on November 5th proved to be preliminary to the destruction that followed. The resulting chaos took the lives of eight people and many others either hospitalized or severely injured. While other artists such as 21 Savage, Earth Wind & Fire, SZA, Lil Baby. Roddy Rich, and Bad Bunny among others performed earlier, Travis Scott served as the headliner. Once his set began, which included a surprise appearance by Drake, the crowd reportedly began to surge even more.
Almost immediately, multiple videos and accounts of the tragedy were uploaded and shared on social media. Fans were seen screaming for the show to be stopped in some videos, while others were seen attempting to get the attention of camera personnel and security. However, there were those that seemed to continue to rage on as they were seen hopping on security vehicles and ambulances. Other reports state that some folks were possibly drugged during the melee.
Amid the severe backlash, statements were released from Travis Scott as well as the Astroworld Instagram account expressing their devastation and grief. The statement provided by the Astroworld Festival’s organizers would go on to ask those festival goers that were in attendance that had any information to provide it to the Houston Police.
In a black and white video that was uploaded to Travis Scott’s Instagram Stories two days after, the rapper shared that his thoughts and prayers were with all the victims and their families. He also promised to cover all funeral costs for the families that have lost lives at the festival. Sharing that he holds his fans at the highest regard and that he only wants them to have a “positive experience,” he stated, “Anytime I can make out anything that’s going on, I stop the show and help them get the help they need. I could just never imagine the severity of the situation.” The “Pick Up Your Phone” rapper may very well have been coming from a sincere place, but people on social media felt as though he was being disingenuous.

Toronto rapper Drake, who is currently listed in a lawsuit for the tragedy, also released a statement to his social media pages. According to Drake, the devastating events have lived in his memory since they’ve transpired. “I hate resorting to this platform to express an emotion as delicate as grief but this is where I find myself,” Drake wrote. With a broken heart, he added that he will “continue to pray for all” of those who lost their lives or are suffering while promising to “be of service in any way I can.”
In the midst of social media calling for Travis Scott to be reprimanded in some way for the tragedy, many started looking to see if the Kardashians had anything to say. Travis Scott is currently dating Kylie Jenner and the two share a daughter, with another child on the way. On November 8th, Kim Kardashian West wrote on behalf of her family that they were in “shock” and “heartbroken” over the tragedy. “We are keeping all of the victims, families, and loved ones impacted in our prayers for healing – as well as Travis who we know cares so much about his fans and is truly devastated,” wrote Kim Kardashian West.
Younger sister Kendall Jenner, who faced a bit of backlash after posting photos of herself at the Astroworld stage while social media was freshly served news of the melee, also shared a statement of her own. “Sending everyone who has been affected all of my love and wishing them strength during this incredibly devastating and sensitive time.”
The mother of his children, Kylie Jenner, shared a statement as well on behalf of herself and Travis Scott. “Travis and I are broken and devastated… I want to make it clear we weren’t aware of any fatalities until the news came out after the show and in no world would have continued filming or performing.”
Khloe Kardashian, however, is feeling the social media scrutiny as many are calling her “tone-deaf.” She created nary a post addressing the tragedy, instead choosing to post a fashionable photo on Instagram. Users encouraged Khloe Kardashian to “read the room” while some reminded her that “people are watching them” for their responses.
