Kim Kardashian and Kanye West are finally divorced. The high-profile couple spent nearly seven years married and share four children together. Kardashian has been patiently biting her tongue during their divorce proceeding, while West has had a year from hell with several scandals and issues. Now that the dust has finally settled, Kim is getting a hefty child support check as it is speculated that she will end up with the majority of the responsibility when it comes to the kids.
Kim and Kanye go back a really long time. The pair met through R&B singer Brandy when Kim was serving as her stylist while dating brother Ray J. West, and Brandy had collaborated on her single “Talk About Our Love,” and he met Kim at the recording session before they ran into each other again at the video shoot. Fast forward years later, and West confessed his love for his future wife in the rap verse from Keri Hilson’s “Knock You Down,” saying, “she was always the cheerleader of my dreams who seemed to only date the head of football teams, and I was the class clown that always kept her laughing.”
Kim and Kanye become one of the most talked about couples on the planet. Unfortunately, it became clear quickly that they had conflicting ideals on life, politics and how to raise their children. West could be seen in some episodes of KUWTK criticizing Kim for her MET Gala outfit and some of her other choices. Things reportedly began unrepairable after a fight in 2020. By 2021 they had been confirmed to be living separately for months. Rumors that Kim was gearing up for divorce came out, and it was reported she was working with high-powered attorney Laura Wasser for months in preparation.
Her divorce filing went public on February 19th, 2021. Kim was seeking joint legal and physical custody of their children, North, Psalms, Chicago, and Saint. She also moved quickly to drop the West from her name and work towards rebranding her businesses. By March 2022, she was legally declared single. While Kim quietly tried to transition out from under Kanye, the rapper-turned-stylist went off the deep end, harassing his wife at every waking moment.
After taunting her in music and in public outbursts, he started making her life impossible when she began dating Pete Davidson. West released a video depicting Pete being decapitated, sent a truck full of roses to Kim, and criticized her parenting in the media. This included calling her out for allowing North West to have a TikTok account and wear makeup.
Through it all, it seemed like the pair would still try to make nice for the kids, with Kanye appearing with them at sporting events and family gatherings. At one point, Kanye wanted his kids to attend his Donda Academy. He complained about security guards keeping him from the children when he’d try to pick them up from their current school and how he did not like Pete around them.
Things began to crumble for Kanye in recent months. Following his antisemitic remarks in October, he lost his whole legal team. He was initially being repped by Bernard Clair and Bob Cohen at New York Cohen Clair Lans Griefer Thorpe & Rottenstreich LLP. They confirmed they were no longer working with him around the time The Gap, Balenciaga, and Adidas all gave him the axe. They were not the first lawyers to walk out on him, though; West had five other teams prior to them who could not handle him.
Kim quickly denounced her ex’s statement saying Hate speech is never ok or excusable. “I stand together with the Jewish community and call on the terrible violence and hateful rhetoric towards them to come to an immediate end,” she said in a Tweet last month. The reality star also distanced herself further from her estranged husband to protect her brand.
Today it was reported that the divorce is finalized, and Kim will be rewarded $200k a month in child support. In addition to this, they have been granted joint legal custody, but Kim is expected to be with the children 80% of the time. As a result, while they have agreed to mediate with any issues surrounding the children. However, “If one of them fails to participate, the other gets to make the decision in a dispute by default.”

This pretty much means Kim is in full control of the children, with West expected to deposit the 200k into her account on the first of every month.
