Today the family of Keisha Lance Bottoms is thanking God following a tragic occurrence.
The former Atlanta Mayor almost lost her nephew after a stray bullet hit her family’s house. The tragedy was too close to home in several ways because she previously lost a nephew to gun violence in 2014.
Bottoms took to her social media account today to share the picture of the bullet holes with a message for her followers. “What goes up must come down. Someone fired a gun in the air, likely miles away, and it came thru the house into my nephew’s room,” she said. Bottoms says that the boy was asleep in his bed just inches away from the entry point.
“We are grateful that God protected him. If you have a gun, please act responsibly. This could be you or your child.” While Bottoms seems to believe it was a stray bullet incident, fans in the comments felt she might have been targetted. “Doubt it was miles away,” said one person. “Miles away? I’m not educated in physics as I would like, but I don’t understand how it could be from miles away,” said another.

Keisha’s family lost Darius Bottoms in 2014 to gun violence. The 18-year-old was shot in his car after being mistaken for someone else. His passing was covered in The Real Murders of Atlanta on the Oxygen Channel. Bottoms served as Mayor of Atlanta from 2018 to 2022 but opted not to seek reelection. She currently works as a commentator for CNN and the Biden administration.
