STARZ P. Valley fans were already gearing up for a long wait between seasons.
The hit series on STARZ was off the small screen for almost two years thanks to COVID-19. Despite that, its second season proved that the fandom was ride or die and premiered with huge numbers last year. Season three was going to take just as long as season 2 to make, and now even longer, thanks to the writer’s strike.
Katori Hall was very transparent with fans of P-Valley following the end of its second season. She admitted that she wrote it with some finality just in case the series was not renewed. Even after its second season smashed viewership numbers, it would be several months before STARZ confirmed its plans to keep the story going. At the time, nervous fans created several online petitions to ensure their desire to return to the Pynk was heard by the bigwigs at STARZ.
The P. Valley creator, Katori Hall took to social media back in October to thank fans for their support and ask for their patience as she took some time to live life and get inspiration for season 3 of P. Valley. They reportedly began working this month in Atlanta but have promptly halted things in support of the ongoing writers’ strike. Hall released a statement about her plans to fully support other writers in their fight for fair pay and representation.
“Like many of my fellow showrunners, I feel as though my writing and producing duties are inextricably linked,” she told Deadline. “As a writer, I strike with a sense of radical dignity — that our work must be valued for the magic it is.”
STARZ P-Valley joins a long list of shows impacted by the writer’s strike. This includes Saturday Night Live, Stranger Things, Cobra Kai, Yellowjackets, Abbott Elementary, and more. The cast members of Abbott Elementary, including star Quinta Brunson, have released statements in support of the strike and have even been spotted in the fray with others.
