Rapper Takeoff Latest Musician To Pass Away Without A Will, Leaving Parents Feuding

The importance of a will in the entertainment industry has come back into focus once again following the passing of Migos member TakeOff. His family is currently fighting for the right to his money after he left them with no documented directions on how to divvy up his fortune. He joins several other big-name stars who unfortunately perished before making sure their family was taken care of.

Aretha Franklin is one of the biggest artists of all time and lived a very long and beautiful life. Franklin struggled on and off with health issues, so it is very confusing why no will was in acted for her to protect her legacy in the event that she passed away. Aretha left us on August 16th, 2018, and left a lasting catalog of music beloved the world over. Unfortunately, she did not leave a will. She left her four sons to figure things out on their own. Her business manager opened up about his attempts to get her to make a trust but said she just never got around to it. “I was after her for a number of years to do a trust,” Los Angeles attorney Don Wilson told CNN back in 2018. “It would have expedited things and kept them out of probate and kept things private.”

Prince was an equally loved star that passed well before his time. The “Purple Rain” singer was still performing and releasing music when he suddenly passed away without a will. Prince had no children, so his living siblings swooped in to claim the rights to his estate following his 2016 passing. His bank was initially tasked with tracking down any living heirs, and the proceeding was long and drawn out by the time they reached a decision earlier this year. By then, some of the siblings awaiting an answer has already passed away.

DMX’s sudden passing shocked the hip-hop community. After struggling for years with mental illness and drug addiction, X passed away, leaving a large extended family. With no will present, several of his baby’s mother and adult children began the process of trying to gain control of his estate. His finance Desiree Lindstrom was denied rights to his fortune after a judge determined she did not have precedence over his eldest kids. In total, five of his kids were duking it out for control, with others speculating to throw their names into the battle based on their various relationships with the late rapper.

Unfortunately for TakeOff’s family, they will now face the same struggle. The young rapper was only 29 at the time of his death. In addition to the hurt that comes from having a loved one fatally injured, they now have the uncomfortable task of splitting up his money. TakeOff was valued at $26 million at his time of passing.

His estranged parents, Titania Davenport-Treet and Kenneth M Ball, are currently trying to sort things out, but the pair do not get along. It’s well documented that Takeoff was raised by his mother, who is also the sister of Quavo. Kenneth reportedly was not present in his son’s life, and many feel he has no right to his estate.

Combined the rap group Migos is now worth $80 million. We’ll keep you posted as this story develops.
