Rise and Fall Of DaBaby (From Selling Out Shows To Buy One, Get One Concert Tickets)

DaBaby was once one of the most promising rappers on the planet. The North Carolina native rose to fame on the back of some well-received records and viral moments. This included over 1 billion streams on songs like “Rockstar” and “Levitating,” sold our concerts and major endorsements. Unfortunately he lost it all just as fast as he got it.

DaBaby came into the industry with red on his ledger after it was revealed he was accused of taking ma’s life before scoring his record deal. He had opened fire on a teen at a local Walmart in North Carolina. It was later dismissed as self-defense. In early 2020, DaBaby’s old ways came back to haunt him as he and his team allegedly jumped a promoter in Miami after he shorted them 10k on their payment. His team made off with credit cards, an iPhone, and 80 bucks from the man. He spent 48 hours in behind bars and was charged with battery for his involvement.

By March of 2020, he was back in trouble. While making his way towards the stage in Tampa during a show, Da Baby struck a female fan in the face. He later was booed off the stage and defended himself, claiming she shined a light in his eyes so he could not see who was on the other end of the phone. He endorsed Kanye West’s run for president in 2020 as well. Fans thought it was in poor taste and was a bad message to send to his younger fans. West would return the favor, bringing DaBaby and Marilyn Manson out during his Donda listening events after Da Baby was canceled in 2021.

Da Baby would join in on the drama between Megan Thee Stallion and Tory Lanez. Despite collaborating with her on several of his biggest hits, Da Baby was team Lanez and took to the stage together to unveil a collaboration that took shots at the Houston hottie in January of 2021. By July of 2021, he had sealed his fate during his set at Rolling Loud. The “Bop” rapper got on stage and said some disparaging things about women, queer people, and more. The rant was deemed homophonic and misogynistic and got him a lot of hate. His response, or lack thereof, brought him more heat, and his career has never recovered. According to the rapper, this mistake cost him over $100 million. Following his remarks, the rapper was removed from major music festivals including Lollapalooza, Day N Vegas, Austin City Limits, iHeartRadio, Music Midtown Festivals, and Governor’s Ball.

Da Baby’s relationship with the R&B singer and the mother of his child, DaniLeigh, has also hurt his public image. Not only has he been accused of being physically and emotionally abusive, but he famously put her on IG and embarrassed her in front of his fans, demanding she leaves his house. He also beat up her brother at a bowling alley in February of 2022.

In one of his most recent controversial moments, In September 2022, the rapper released the first single from his new album ‘Baby On Baby 2’ called, ‘Boogeyman’ which he claimed to sleep with female rapper Megan Thee Stallion on his single ‘Boogeyman’. Many fans called him corny and using the female rapper to sell records. Unfortunately, ‘Baby On Baby 2’ debuted at number 34 on the US Billboard 200 chart with around 17,000 album equivalent units.

One of the first signs of DaBaby’s career on the decline was the rapper cancelling a New Orleans show after only selling “fewer than 500 for an arena with a concert capacity of 14,000.” Now The rapper is currently on tour being clowned after it was revealed he’s now offering BOGO deals buy one, get one free tickets with prices starting around $22.

Last week Dababy canceled another show in Richmond, VA. On the arena’s website the reason is due to ”unforeseen circumstances.” According to the venue, all tickets will be automatically refunded.
