Saweetie Trending After Selling 2000 Copies Of Her New Album, Many Believe Her Career Is Over

Rapper Saweetie is easily one of the more recognizable ladies in mainstream hip-hop. She used her dazzling looks, infectious cadence, and carefully calculated samples to score a handful of hits over the years. Despite several platinum singles, it seems like her time might be up, according to some, after her latest project only sold 2k copies in its first week.

The writing was already on the wall last week when Saweetie took to social media to announce an EP pretty close to its release date that would reportedly shed light on her relationship with Quavo. The issue with this? Quavo had just witnessed the passing of his nephew TakeOff, and many thought it was in poor taste to release such a project so close to his funeral. Fans defended her, saying she had a right to tell her story. Well, it looks like no one was interested. “13 million followers, hundreds of thousands likes on all pictures, but album sold less than 2000 copies. That’s crazy. The math ain’t adding up,” said one person.

Super producer HitMaka took to his Twitter to question the team behind Saweetie and if someone is getting fired following this misstep. “Saweetie selling 2k is bad A&R vibes. Someone’s supposed to tell u this ain’t it! I also have issues with her having multiple platinum singles & not sticking with same formula that got her here. Someone gotta get fired.”

The EP is titled The Single Life and features six songs in total. Currently, only one song on the project has cracked 1 million streams. A far cry from her more successful records, which are all in the 100 million lane and up. Some fans were quick to point out that Saweetie is not the only one flopping on the charts. “They dragging Saweetie for her sales but get mad when people remind them that NONE of Glorilla songs Charted, Cardi B has no solo charting songs, Normani hasn’t had a charting song in 2 years, and Meg ain’t chart in months, yet they get more support than her! Keep that energy.”

Do you think Saweetie flopped because the music was bad or because of the Quavo backlash?
