When a crowd gathers to witness a basketball game, the last thing that comes to mind is violence. Yes, some minor to major arguments may ensue, and sometimes a scuffle. But most attendees at a sporting event are not concerned about the threat of significant violence. Unfortunately, this instance occurred at a recent high school game where Los Angeles Lakers star Lebron James’s namesake, Lebron “Bronny” James Jr., and his opposing team were playing.
Eighteen-year-old Bronny James has played for Sierra Canyon High School’s varsity basketball team, The Trailblazers, since 2019. Located in Chatsworth, Los Angeles, the team’s upcoming 2022-23 is scheduled to commence on November 16th against LA’s King Drew Magnet High School’s varsity team. According to MaxPreps.com, The Division 1 varsity team was at the top of their league last season with a league record of 6-0. In addition, the team held an impressive overall record of 26 wins and 5 losses. Under the leadership of head coach Andre Chevalier, the team ranked #2 in the state and #26 nationally.
Joining Bronny James this season will be his younger brother, Bryce James. Last season, 15-year-old Bryce James played for the Sierra Canyon Junior Varsity team. Also playing for the varsity team is Justin Pippen, son of NBA legend Scottie Pippen and Larsa Pippen. Additionally, Ashton Hardaway – son of former NBA All-Star and now coach, Anfernee “Penny” Hardaway, is also on The Trailblazers.
While the season has yet to officially start, the team participates in various tournaments nationwide. But during a recent preseason game held in D.C. at Wise High School against DeMatha Catholic High School, the event had to be stopped abruptly. According to reporter Tarek Fattal, who caught coverage of the incident, an alleged fight broke out in the stands, which caused immediate chaos.
