Ashanti is definitely heating things up as of late. From her incredible fashion choices to her simple appearances, it doesn’t take much for Ashanti to get the people going. Her latest experience on the Verzuz stage was none different, and she has rapper, and ex-boyfriend Nelly to thank. Since the two have broken up, fans have wondered if she has been in a relationship, and with whom. Now, Ashanti has opened up about her relationship status, and whether or not Nelly has another shot.
September 14th in New York City was a reunion of sorts for many when Verzuz hosted rappers Fat Joe and Ja Rule in their latest battle. Both Ashanti and Nelly were on hand to perform their respective hits with the rappers. A video has since gone viral that showed the two in what looked like a brief embrace after the “Country Grammar” rapper made his way across the stage to greet his ex. Nelly could be seen trying to dodge the performers onstage as he headed in Ashanti’s direction.
It was later revealed in an Instagram Live session with Fat Joe, Remy Ma, Ja Rule, and Ashanti, that the two had no idea they would see one another. However, Fat Joe mentioned that “3 seconds” into hearing that the battle would go down, Nelly asked the “Lean Back” rapper if he could participate. Joe did not inform Ashanti of Nelly’s participation for fear that she would not come.
Ashanti then revealed the two had not been in contact since they ended their relationship six years ago. While she was “not expecting it,” she proceeded to wish him the best. When Ja Rule mentioned that Nelly was single and hinted at a possible chance of reconciliation, Ashanti quickly shut it down.
“Yeah, but I ain’t!” Ashanti exclaimed while laughing.
Ashanti has not provided any further information on the lucky individual that she is dating, but fans continue to speculate.
In the past, Ashanti has been romantically linked to a few other people besides Nelly. Rumors started to circulate that she was seeing NFL star DeSean Jackson in 2013 when the pair were seen together celebrating his 27th birthday. However, the “Foolish” singer denied the chatter, saying they were longtime friends.
Ashanti was also rumored to be in a relationship with NFL player Darnell Dockett. She would add fuel to them when on an appearance on the daytime talk show The Real, Ashanti teased that she was dating someone in “an industry” that was not music. The features she described of the “mystery man” also likened to Dockett.
Others that Ashanti has been rumored to date in the past include NBA player James Harden and Joyner Lucas. Ashanti, however, has always maintained a private life, keeping the public out of her relationships for the most part.
