So many unforeseen breakups have occurred lately, and one of the latest confirmed splits is with the Hip-Hop group Migos. Rumors of the iconic group’s disbandment began in May when group members Quavo and Takeoff released their debut single, “Hotel Lobby,” under the moniker Unc and Phew. They began to heighten when reports revealed that Quavo and Takeoff were no longer following Offset and vice versa. Now that there is confirmation after months of being lowkey, speculations are arising that a female rapper had something to do with the Grammy-nominated trio’s dissolution.
Amid constant ramblings of the Migos breaking up, Akademiks offered to TMZ that he personally spoke with Offset. Within their conversation, the media personality claimed that while there may be issues going on, the group remains strong. But when their scheduled Governor’s Ball performance was canceled in June, that didn’t help their cause. Then in August, another release dropped from Quavo and Offset, “Us vs. Them,” sans Cardi B’s husband, Offset. Additionally, Offset released his Baby Keem-produced solo single, “54321.”
Solo music from the trio is not an uncommon practice. In addition to the Migos’s collaborative releases, each member respectively has released their own solo music in the past. However, this time things admittedly felt different, especially for fans. Then, this past September, Offset announced the untitled follow-up to his 2019 debut, Father of 4. Taking to Twitter, he shared in a series of simple messages that the album is scheduled to release on November 11th. That same month, Quavo and Offset revealed on social media that their joint album, Only Built 4 Infinity Links, would drop on October 7th.
Outside of the album announcements, there were legal issues brewing. According to TMZ, Offset filed legal documents stating that his record label, Quality Control, was not honoring a deal regarding his solo career and sought to be removed from the roster. However, QC rebuts that the “accusations in this lawsuit [are] false” and that Offset was still a part of the label.

There was much information surrounding a potential breakup, but still no solid reason. However, a new song on Quavo and Takeoff’s album entitled “Messy” might be shedding light on what went down. In the song, Quavo’s lyrics elude to a particular female rapper that may have recently appeared on “Caresha Please” being the cause. You can listen to the song here.
Upon hearing the song, fans immediately surmised that the rappers were referring to Saweetie, Quavo’s ex. Some fans in many of the blogs’ comment sections on social media figured the lyrics were also directed toward rumors of Saweetie messing with fellow Quality Control rapper Lil’ Baby. But one fan wrote, “Lil baby ain’t his dawg. We know who is….somebody check on the wife tho 😂. Quavo said u ruined mine ima Lowkey do the same.” Of course, the fan referred to Offset.
Recently, rumors emerged that Offset and Saweetie have been intimate, but Cardi B quickly debunked that on social media. What made matters worse was Hip-Hop trio Travis Porter’s recent appearance on the We In Miami Podcast, where they said that Migos broke up “over a [expletive].” So, of course, fans have begun to run with their statement.
Quavo and Takeoff recently addressed the Migos’s breakup on the Big Facts Podcast, claiming that they want to continue on as a duo at the moment. Additionally, they stressed how vital “loyalty” meant to them.
